Take THAT Kiddos!

I finally had enough of my three boys trashing the upstairs: knocking the couches on their sides, spilling itsy bitsy game pieces all over the carpet, floating popsicle sticks in the toilet, stealing my Dr Peppers, and not cleaning up their toys. My upstairs has looked like a dump for three days while I have pleaded with them and threatened them to clean the filth up. So, this is what I did:

That's right--I got them back. Take THAT kiddos!

How about donating those toys rather than throwing them away?

That's the most sensible thing a mom can do! Threats don't work, only action does. No one ever died from too few toys...

Please keep us updated on what happens next. I'm very curious. But hey, drastic times call for drastic measures!

I've done that too. Then 2 years later the kids found the toys in the garage and said, "Hey, I thought you threw these away!" Foiled again.

Gosh, I need to do this!! I have four kids and no matter how much I holler and plead, they cant keep anything remotely clean for any length of time. The worst part is when they trash my room too! I think you have a great idea though. If they have so many toys that its an overwhelming task to keep them picked up, then perhaps the best solution is to take away the overwhelming mass of toys!

That is funny! They'll probably forget all about them.

I got a huge storage bin for TC's toys, now every night I make him clean up before bed.

Auntie Em, Whoot!

Rebel, So true!

Dang Gina, Keep your fingers crossed the kids dont find the toys in the garage.

Foursons, You keep your fingers crossed too!

April Dawn, I figure if they cant appreciate their toys enough to keep them picked up, then they dont need to have them. (Unfortunately for me this means they also found 400 q-tips and dumped them on the floor).

Lily Storm, I sure hope you're right!

Kristi, That should be too hard of task for them now...lol

Jennifer, High Five!

Chicamom85, Me too.

I once hid one shoe out of every pair Grace and David's daughter left laying around after I'd asked them a thousand times to clean their sh*t up. It made them cry. Their tears made me laugh. Is that wrong?

LOL I have a whole garage filled with thrown out toys! Somehow these boys keep making messes...

Thanks for atopping by my blog! I read some of your story. Wow. I am so sorry about your sisters. Writing is therapy and your book looks amazing. I too had a rough start but like you, I am so blessed to have a family of my own now!

Great blog! :)

actually that happen to me, when I was younger my mother really did throw away my toys though.. I think that was wise of you

Mindee@ourfrontdoor said...

Y'know, if you wait long enough they'll forget about what you took and stop missing them and then you can give the away FOREVER!

Oh the freedom!

A good mother comes up with a great idea... :)

You just gotta love boys.

Screwed Up Texan said...

Candance, You are SO bad...

Tamara, Sure has been easier today making them clean.

Heather, Wow! I've been thinking about the toys I hid and I'll probably put their heirloom type toys in a chest, but the junk toys (ie Happy Meal toys) will probably get trashed. Mostly cause they're dirty and grimey and I dont feel like cleaning them.

Mindee, Your comment made me think Whoot!

the nightingale, Oh now dont make my head swell any larger, lol.

AZ Mommy, Okay fine. :)

I love it! I did that a few months ago with my four year old son. The toys that he had grown out of I donated to charity and the toys that he thinks are gone forever are in a bag in the closet.
Every week I give him back one toy...as long as his room has stayed clean.
And the best part is that toy is his favorite for a week!
I say bravo to you woman!

Way to go, girl! Maybe they'll eventually get the idea.

Mine are a bit younger, but I have really thrown away some of their stuff. It was junk any way, but it felt very liberating! :)
